Update now, manual mode and webhooks

Refresh a source the moment you publish: the Update now button, manual-only sources, webhook URLs, and the cooldown between updates.

These are on Starter and up. On the free plan the credits card on Sources says so once, above your sources, with the reason and a link to the plans, and each source keeps updating at its speed.

Update now

Press Update now on a source row. Within about 8 seconds you get the answer: what the update cost and, if it changes anything, how much slower your other feeds will then update until the refill. A slower update keeps going in the background with a progress bar on the source, and you do not have to wait for it.

  • It spends credits like a scheduled update, and never more than your balance or your monthly cap. It can take the balance to exactly zero. When it refuses, it says which limit blocked it and how to fix it.
  • If the platform fails during the update, the credits are refunded and the widget keeps its last good posts. The history on the source marks it “failed, refunded”.
  • A manual update counts as the source’s latest update, so the next regular one is timed from it.

The cooldown

After an Update now or a webhook update, the button shows a countdown (“Update now in 4:12”). Scheduled updates do not start it. The wait between manual or webhook updates of one source is:

SourceWait
Pinterest5 minutes
YouTube, Twitch, Kick15 minutes
Google reviews1 hour
X1 hour, and never less than your plan's fastest for X (a day on Starter, 6 hours on Growth)
Testimonialsnone: it answers at once and spends nothing

It is a guard against a double click or a hook firing in a loop, not a cost control.

A failed update starts no wait, so you can try again at once, except for X, YouTube and Google reviews: a failed call still counts against the platform’s limits, so their wait applies after a failure too.

In a month when TileSet’s share of X or Google review updates is used up (see Slower this month), Update now on those sources answers with the date updates start again, spends nothing, and a webhook call is skipped.

Manual only

On Starter and up, in Schedule, turn on Manual updates only (on the free plan the dialog shows manual updates and webhooks as one locked section). The source then spends nothing on a schedule and changes only when you press Update now or a webhook calls it. TileSet still refreshes it for free every few days so the widget never goes blank.

Webhooks

In Schedule, open Update from another tool and press Create webhook URL. It is a secret URL that updates the source when something calls it with a POST: your CMS when you publish, Zapier, or a cron service.

  • The URL is shown once. TileSet keeps only a hash, so it can never be shown again. Make a new URL replaces it and the old one stops working at once. Remove turns it off.
  • A call inside the cooldown is skipped and costs nothing, so a hook that fires twice is not an error.
  • If the credits or the cap cannot cover the update, the call is refused with an answer saying what it costs and what is left, so your CMS never fails quietly.

The Schedule dialog also lists the source’s recent history: updates, speed changes and webhook changes.
